Charlie walks toward a narrow path in the woods, still trying to comprehend what this man, whose walking beside him, said about waiting for him for a very long time. He hasn't uttered any word after Daniel's big reveal. Daniel, on the other hand, wasn't saying anything as well, he was just walking half a meter beside Charlie. Cricket's night chirps came as a reminder that they are not alone in the world, as Charlie felt. He knows he's all capable to just go on with his life and forget everything about this weird shit but god he's seduced in the fact that he knows that there's something going on and he's somehow part of it, or it.
And why not run off instead of exchanging the tension of curiosity. Lingering that moment is a treat, if not for everyone's taste, but to him at least. And the fact that he saw the man who called himself Daniel in his day dream. All's weird and not well.
So many questions, but the answers are, well, non-existent at the moment.
Finally, Daniel spoke, "I know this is something beyond... but we are here for a reason."
Charlie remained silent.
"We could not let you go on and live a normal life anymore," Daniel added.
Charlie told himself, 'normal?' He is no stranger to being told as not normal and now he's being told that he's living within the norm.
Daniel continued, "I've been given this task to awaken you."
Daniel's voice halted then silence deafened Charlie. In that moment, he knows Daniel already has stopped walking. He can hear his heartbeat slowed as if time forgot to tick. That same power he felt earlier started to envelope him, it's creeping, it eloped him. He sensed a growing energy inside him that he could no longer control. His eyes searched for light and for a second he almost crossed a space beyond time. But a voice commanded, "Don't let go."
"You are the link to the present and the past. There is no future. The present is the future and it is now. Your power is being harnessed to transition an army of evil to reign what is known to you as today and the future. We live in the past. Our kind was not forbidden to travel to today until someone amongst us fathered you and left our lineage in your time. It was impossible, almost, but it happened. It sparked issues in our time but it died out, until recently. Again, it was almost impossible, but it is happening right now. It's a domino effect of misjudgment and madness," Daniel said with much weariness.
He continued, "We are immortal, until someone mutilates and decapitates us. The direct line of our ancestors share the power travelling to the present. Not all are gifted, only our coven."
Charlie heard everything, clear as crystal and thought to himself, 'evil, coven, father?'
"You are not having day dreams Charlie. You are travelling home all these years but you can't in your weak self, you are not prepared. You traveled at a wrong place and at a wrong time, and the wrong people. They saw you Charlie, it has been brought to our attention before of your threat but miscalculations and the power over the unknown betrayed us. Travelling is not a problem but leaving a vessel is. The vessel, your body serves as an artificial gate to the others who do not possess the gift of travelling. These other immortals are tired of their second-class lives in our time, and will use your body once they find you. They are after you Charlie, eager. We are here to help you and the people in your time, and that's the truth," Daniel ended it with side-step then a run.
Steady strobe lights disturbed the pitch dark night of the woods, Charlie heard Agatha's voice shouting his name. She's not alone as several footsteps neared him. He stood still, thinking of a lame excuse for what happened earlier. Agatha came into view with two policemen, guns out. She shot him with an 'i hate you' look and said, "What happened, i was calling, has it gone dead?"
"I ran, slipped and hurt myself on the head. It was supposed to be a prank but the joke was on me. I'm sorry." His excuse rang in his head for at least twice, stressing on the part that the joke was on him. Agatha quickly hugged him and sighed. She told the policemen that everything is okay and thanked them for their help. They all walked towards the main road. Charlie couldn't help himself but to look over his shoulder to see if Daniel is present, but he's apparently nowhere near. He couldn't sense him. Agatha noticed this but kept mum.
Upon reaching the main road the policemen bid their goodbyes and drove eastbound. Agatha on the other hand had not started the engine of her BMW. She said, in the most worried tone, "Talk."
